Facepalm @ Roberto Alomar travishamockery

roberto alomar hall of fame

How did this happen? No really, how?

The only legitimate question regarding Roberto Alomar is if he is the best second baseman in the history of the game. I say yes; but it is, without question, reasonably debatable; his place in the Hall of Fame is not.

Clearly, this is a case of the The Baseball Writers`s Association of America (BBWAA), the vindictive, pompous, closet homosexual fools educated historians and keepers of the game who vote on the Hall of Fame election, deciding he was not "first ballot material." What does mean? Well, if you are not familiar with the process then a bit of explanation will make the silly games at work here clear.

Five years after retirement, a player is eligible for the Hall of Fame. You need 75% to get elected, but as long as he gets 5% of the vote each year, he can remain on the ballot for up to fifteen (15?!) years. So what has happened over the yearsis the writers have taken it upon themselves to create tiers of selection. A first ballot Hall of Famer > fourth ballot Hall of Famer, and so forth.

Instead of simply answering the yes/no question "Is he a Hall of Famer?", the writers say "Yeah, but not quite yet. He`ll get in eventually."

WTF does that mean? He stopped playing five years ago. His career is cast in stone. What changes between Year One and Year Six? Eh, the whims of the writers; that`s all.

Now do you see what happened to Robert Alomar? For whatever reason, maybe the Hirschbeck spitting incident; probably maybe not, some baseball writers just want to make him sweat it out.

That is what happened to Jim Rice. I live in Boston. Anyone I know that has met Jim Rice said he was a total a-hole. Without exception; he is jerk. And it is well documented that he was a jerk to the baseball writers for all his years here with the Red Sox. So when they got their chance to pay him back, they did:

"Of course he has Hall of Fame numbers. And we`ll let him in; when we are good and ready."

I guarantee you that is not the way it was intended when the process was created. Further proof: no one has ever gotten 100% of the vote. No one. Never.

Not Sandy Koufax (86.87%). Not Nolan Ryan (98.79%). Not even Babe Ruth (95.13%). You can view the entire disgraceful list of epic failures here.

It is time to change the process. The writers can no longer be trusted. I would have much greater faith in current players, managers, and living Hall of Famers to do the right thing. Unwritten rules like "First ballot is sacred" and "no one gets 100%" are stupid and do not benefit the history of the game. In fact, they make mockery of it.
